Grow Your Own Weekend - RHS Wisley

"Amazing food doesn't have to cost the earth" is the strapline...

...for the RHS Garden Wisley Grow Your Own Weekend on 26-27 March for those of you interested in veggies. The perfect opportunity to get your juices flowing over having a vegetable patch, vegetable hanging basket, vegetable window box, whatever you have the space for.

The end of March is prime-time for starting to sow, everything gets growing really quickly with the days lengthening and the temperatures rising and it really is easy-peasy to grow something, even if its one tomato plant and some basil to compliment it.

RHS Wisley have produced a nice looking leaflet which i picked up this week when i visited, looks like there will be planting and cookery demonstrations, 'Ask the Gardeners' sessions, and model fruit and vegetable gardens. For more info head to their website rhs.org.uk/wisley. The gardens there are gorgeous even if you don't fancy the veggies, a good afternoon's stroll, and you can get a perfect cuppa and piece of cake. Takes me an hour door to door (from Caversham).

Anyway, news from our more bijou surroundings - the Tatsoi and Mizuna seedlings have poked through overnight and there is a suggestion of a broad bean, but we might have to wait a day yet for it to fully emerge. Oh the excitement!

Enjoy Wisley if you go
