Magnolia Stellata bloom and news of National Beanpole Week..

Yes, its all happening! More on NBW in a moment, but just to bask in the glory of this early Spring sunchine for a few minutes.

A wander down the garden is a real sight to behold, my Magnolia Stellata is in full bloom and i have attached a photo to this blog so you can appreciate its purity and simplicity. It is a tiny little shrub, possibly because it is planted in the wrong place, but it has put on its best show ever this Spring and is covered in flowers. The grand matriarch Magnolia, as yet unidentified, is teetering on the brink of bloom but the Stellata is more endearing to me for its petiteness.

I have spent a whole day in my own garden this week giving it a post Winter tidy. Everything is fresh and green and draped in anticipation for the year ahead. The only unhappy faces are those of the chickens which have been secured in their run at the back having had the last few months freedom around the garden, they are pining for the best scratching spot - under the bird feeder!

And so to National Beanpole Week which i am delighted to announce is holding an event in our neck of the woods at Caversham Court Gardens, Caversham, Berkshire - it's so close I can practically smell the willow! The date is April 30th, 10.30am to 3pm. There will be a willow worker, beanpoles and pea sticks, plant stalls, wood turner, tour of the gardens, refreshments etc. Caversham Court Gardens are right on the banks of the Thames and are a real oasis. There is a great little tearoom which sells proper homemade cakes, lots of history associated with the site and a steep slope for kids, and big kids, to roll down. I will be there to stock up on poles, sticks and obelisks and hope to see our local willow-man, Richard Cotterill, there.

Enjoy the rest of this warm sunshine
